New legislation for\u00a0United Arab Emirates\u00a0requires pharmaceutical companies\u00a0to\u00a0state the name and concentration of medicines in braille on all packaging produced for the UAE market. The braille must be included on the packs in Arabic braille and English braille.<\/p>\n
The legislation also requires QR codes to be added to\u00a0any medicines produced for the country.\u00a0Patients scan the code via a smartphone application, giving access to information about the medicine, including recent warnings and usage details.<\/p>\n
Dr Amin Al Amiri, assistant undersecretary at the UAE Ministry of Health and\u00a0chairman of the Higher Pharmaceutical Vigilance Committee stated that\u00a0pharmaceutical companies have been given six months to comply with the new rules. This period may\u00a0be extended if needed to avoid any shortage in the supply of medicines in the country, he said.<\/p>\n
